The fishing season starts on 1st October and providing we get our normal spring rainfall, which is happening at the moment, the rivers should be in great order for the fishing season ahead. Don't forget for fishing enthusiasts - Five Rivers Retreat is the place to stay ! The vegetable garden has been turned over and all ready for planting. Hope to have our potatoes in soon to ensure new potatoes for Christmas. Other vegetables will also be planted very soon which will see us have fresh vegetables for those dining with us over the summer months. Ruby is keen on helping with the vegetable garden. She has been doing a lot of study at school regarding the environment so has come home with lots of plans that she has put into action. Her first effort was building a worm farm with the help of Roger that she is very proud of. Roger has just started his lambing beats as the sheep are due to start lambing any day. Ruby and I are very excited and think we are pretty good farmers as one of our pet sheep 'Blossum' has had her lambs - three of them ! Hope this is a sign that the farm sheep will have lots of lambs also. Ruby and Roger have arrived home with two new puppies - something that happens in our household often ! These two that have been named Tui and Daisy will eventually be farm dogs (huntaways, that bark at the sheep) but at the moment they are getting lots of attention and play time from Miss Ruby. She is up early in the morning to check on them and give them their breakfast before going to school. January 2007 - Our last night in New Zealand and we saved the best until last. A wonderful setting, a lovely quiet suite, great food, good company, we couldn't ask for a better place to be our final impression of New Zealand. Thank you so much.
