Our fishing season started on the 1st October. Rivers have been in excellent order, coming through the winter with not too many excessive flows. The weather is starting to warm up with already some good mayfly hatches. Providing we get our normal spring rainfall, which is happening at the moment, the rivers should continue to be in great order for the fishing season ahead. Don't forget for fishing enthusiasts - Five Rivers Retreat is the place to stay ! Spring planting has already started for the vegetable garden. Roger and Ruby have the potatoes and beans planted and they are already sprouting which is good news. New potatoes for Christmas. Other vegetables will be planted very soon which will see us have fresh vegetables for those dining with us over the summer months. Lambing has finished on the farm for this season and we had a wonderful spring for it. The lambs are still with their mothers at the moment and are busy frolicking in the paddocks which is a great sight. The deer are just about to be put into their paddocks for fawning which occurs around mid November. Roger is busy at the moment getting new grass and crop paddocks for next winter in. Ruby is very busy with her last term of school for the year. She has swimming lessons two nights a week this term so is kept active. She did get a puppy for her birthday but he is no longer a puppy. James is a German Shorthaired Pointer and is keeping all of the family on their toes. He does love attention and gets plenty of it from Ruby when she arrives home from school. Don't forget to book your accommodation now ... whether it is for fishing or just relaxing book at Five Rivers Retreat and enjoy some great Southern Hospitality ! You can choose to dine with us or we have the Mayfly Cafe locally in Lumsden open Tuesday - Sunday and the Five Rivers Station Cafe open on a Friday, Saturday and Sunday night for evening dining. Keep checking our website as our own Menu is about to be added, lets you book meals prior to your arrival. Here are couple of comments from earlier guests to tempt you ... January 2007 - Wonderful hospitality - thank you all so much, fabulous food - we don't want to leave.
January 2007 - Our last night in New Zealand and we saved the best until last. A wonderful setting, a lovely quiet suite, great food, good company, we couldn't ask for a better place to be our final impression of New Zealand. Thank you so much.
